Organizational Structure (Flow Chart)

National Committee

The YAL National Committee is a 21 member body responsible for the approval of the YAL annual budget and plan, the YAL National Convention, and any disputes within the organization. They are a guiding body and have great influence over the direction of YAL. The National Committee is comprised of 1 National Chairman, 7 Regional Directors, 7 At-large Committee Members, and 6 Appointed Committee Members.

The National Chairman and 7 At-large Committee Members are elected at the YAL National Convention and serve a 2 year term. The National Convention is held on odd number years starting in 2009. Mostly, these are members who have made a name for themselves within the movement and/or campaigned hard to bring a large delegation to the National Convention.

The 7 Regional Directors are elected at the YAL Regional Conventions and serve a 2 year term. All Regional Conventions are held on even number years starting in 2010. The position requires extra responsibilities because they also work within the Executive Committee and manage the day to day operations within their region (more explained below). YAL Regional Directors are leaders in the field. They have a strong understanding and a real pride for liberty in their region of the country.

Of these 15 elected Committee Members, they come together to select 6 Appointed Committee Members. Appointed Committee Members are distinguished leaders who bring a unique quality to the National Committee but may not have a large student following. For example, an appointment may be an entrepreneur who offers budgetary experience and business savvy, or a young professor who provides a vast knowledge of liberty and an understanding of academia. Appointed Members add experience that students may not possess.

To begin, the National Committee will be appointed on an interim bases until the first National and Regional Conventions. This will occur over the next couple months, so if you are interested in holding a prominent position within YAL and want influence the future of this organization, we want to hear from you. Please email us to discuss the possibilities of becoming a founding Committee Member.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is responsible for the day-to-day operations of YAL and also referred to as "YAL National". Our greatest task is to serve YAL chapters and members. Remember, it is the chapters and members that determine the activities and events of YAL. We do not want YAL to be entirely a top-down organization. This further stresses the importance of a well thought-out Chapter Plan. These positions are approved by the National Committee as determined by the annual budget and plan.

The Executive Committee is led by the Executive Director. He/she is responsible for a cohesive work environment, overseeing the operations, spending, and executing the approved annual plan.

Over the next couple months, the Executive Committee will assemble to accomplish our upcoming plans.

Within the committee, a field program, commanded by a National Field Director (NFD), will form. The NFD is responsible for starting, administering, and communicating with YAL chapters. The field program is comprised of the NFD, Regional Directors, State Chairmen/Chairwomen, and Chapter Presidents. As mentioned above, the 7 Regional Directors are elected positions at the Regional Conventions. It is a part-time, paid position and will require extra responsibilities beyond the National Committee that include: organizing their Regional Convention, recruiting and appointing State Chairmen/Chairwomen, and starting new YAL chapters.

State Chairmen/Chairwomen are appointed positions. They are responsible for starting YAL chapters and managing activities and events in their state.

Finally, Chapter Presidents are elected by YAL members within their chapter and lead their daily chapter operations.

The field program is the face of YAL and where the fight for liberty occurs on campus.

**More positions to Executive Committee will be appointed in the near future**
