Got plans for spring break yet? Because you definitely should.

And those plans should entail coming to YAL's Spring Break in Kentucky, a full week of civics education and activism for liberty for YAL members across the country!  This important event begins in just 11 days, so if you're still unsure about whether or not you're coming, now's the time to decide -- and to decide that you are coming to Kentucky.

Spring Break in Kentucky

If your spring break doesn't line up with these dates, you can still come!  YAL staff will fill out any forms necessary to get you credit with your college, and as for classes....well, all YAL members are good students, right?  You'll catch back up in no time!

CPAC 2010 Sumo Championship

Sixty-Four contestants 'Belly'd up to Big Government' and took part in YAL's CPAC Sumo YAL SumoWrestling Tournament on Friday, February 19th at the Marriott Wardman Hotel in Washington, D.C.   It was an incredibly fun and popular event and literally hundreds of people participated in open wrestling throughout the weekend against "Big Government", portrayed by 'Big Sis' Janet Napolitano.

The event was covered by many major media outlets, and even made it live on Fox News:

Here's footage of the Championship Match between Ralph (in Red) and our Tournament Champ Mitch (sporting Blue)!  Congratulations to all who participated!

Ron Paul Wins CPAC Straw Poll!

Ron Paul has won the CPAC straw poll -- arguably by a land slide!  You can check out the full poll, but here are the presidential poll results:

Thinking ahead to the 2012 Presidential election, who would you vote for as the next Republican nominee for President?

  • Ron Paul -- 31%
  • Mitt Romney -- 22%
  • Sarah Palin -- 7%
  • Tim Pawlenty -- 6%
  • Mike Pence -- 5%
  • Newt Gingrich -- 4%
  • Mike Huckabee -- 4%
  • Mitch Daniels -- 2%
  • Rick Santorum -- 2%
  • John Thune -- 2%
  • Haley Barbour -- 1%
  • Other -- 5%
  • Undecided -- 6%

Yes, Ron Paul got more votes than the next two candidates combined.  Part of that is awesome organization on the part of Campaign for Liberty and Young Americans for Liberty's staff and committed volunteers.  And part of it, I think, is that Ron Paul's message of liberty can't be stopped -- even at CPAC.

Bellying up to Big Governement

So just as we suspected, the sumo wrestling at YAL's CPAC 2010 booth was a media hit. Here is a preview of what we (YAL diehards) are doing at our table at CPAC.

The sumo competition was called "bellying up to big government." Sam Swedberg, a YAL intern, dressed as Janet Napolitano to represent the government. On the other side was a volunteer who fought for " we the people."  It was lots of fun. You should be here!

Campus Activity (Spring Semester)

This is a run down on what some campuses around the country have been doing and or what they plan on doing in the near future.

Wichita State

Wichita State printed out about 50 copies of the Obama YAL fliers we posted, and added their contact and meeting info before posting them around campus. They're planning on having a viewing party of "For Liberty" in the campus theater in either late February or early March. They're hoping to work with the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) on their campus to co-sponsor an event this semester. Finally they're looking to get more involved with politics at the local level.

Florida StateFlorida State is an extremely busy campus. Every month they host a free-market economics education lecture/seminar for the local adult community in Tallahassee, and have had two so far covering Health Economics and basic economic principles (what is wealth, how is value determined, etc.) They had their first general meeting a week ago and are looking forward to their next event co-sponsored with another group on campus featuring Ilya Shapiro of the Cato Institute. FSU's events are every other week and the line-up features Dr. Bruce Benson, Dr. Tom Woods, reps from FIRE and a speaker from LEAP over the next couple of months. On top of all of that they have weekly reading/discussion groups where they discuss many topics including current issues as well as deeper intellectual topics; the next topic will be discussions over readings of "For A New Liberty."

Chapter Activity

Illinois State and Purdue University recently held recruitment week events.  Purdue went the more conventional route and held a table. It looks like they were able to engage students well, which is exactly what we need to be doing.

Purdue Table

Illinois State had a pizza party for their members and then as a group took to the streets to protest U.S. foreign occupation.  They seem to have had a peace-loving good time.

Anti-Occupation

Both activities looked successful and are great examples to groups out there on how a campus can engage students, thus recruit more members to the cause of liberty. Check out more pictures from both events below.

George W. Obama

One year ago today, Barack Obama swore to uphold the Constitution as the 44th President of the United States.  "Hope" and "change" had arrived in Washington, DC.  Or so the American people were led to believe.

As the spring semester begins, it's time to take action on your campuses and recruit students who now realize what you and I have known from the beginning:  Obama is more of the same.

To help you and your YAL chapter get started, YAL National has created a couple recruitment flyers for you to use. Click on the images below to download and print quarter sheet flyers.  Please feel free to post them online and share them with your friends too.

What ChangeObama is Bush

  1. Click on the images to download.
  2. Arrange 4 images on a page to create a 1/4 sheet flyer.
  3. Print out 1 copy.
  4. Use a Sharpie and hand-write your chapter's information (next meeting time/room #, contact info, ect.) in the white space at the bottom.
  5. Photocopy copies of your custom 1/4 sheet flyer.
  6. Cut out flyers (paper cutter is best).  Try to keep the 4 images as symmetrical as possible.
  7. Staple, tape, and distribute flyers around campus.

CPAC Space Filling Quick!

With the new semester starting up, I just wanted to remind everyone to meet with their chapters and reserve their lodging for CPAC as soon as possible.

While lodging usually runs in the $200-$300 PER NIGHT range, we are able to offer a once-in-a-lifetime price to attend CPAC:  $129 total, which includes 4 nights lodging and your pass to CPAC!

Click this link here to reserve your lodging and be sure to use the Promotional Code "YAL" to ensure you receive the discounted price.

Also, if you have not done so yet, take a look at the YAL Top Recruiter Contest here.  There are some extremely handsome prizes for those that recruit to CPAC -- including an all expense paid to CPAC.

See you at CPAC!

"I Pledge" Makes Its Way Around the Intertubes

Check out how many sites have linked to YAL's new "I Pledge" video (and then watch it if you haven't already!):

This is a long list, but I'm pretty sure it could be better:  It could have your blog on it too.  If you have a blog, Twitter, Facebook page, or other website, please post YAL's "I Pledge" video today and help this go viral!

What is your Pledge?

Take a look at our new "I Pledge" video!  It was inspired by the nauseating "I Pledge to be a servant to our President" video by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher that came out around Obama's Inauguration last year.  What happened to all the change?

Spread the message, share the video with your friends, and help it go viral!

What is your pledge in 2010?

Update:  The video was posted by Mish Shedlock on Mish's Global Economic Trends Analysis!  It's certainly making its way around the internet.  Keep reposting!
