Ron Paul at YOUR campus?

Want to host Ron Paul on your campus?

You do!?  Well, fortunately and unfortunately, so do a lot of other YAL chapters across the country -- and Dr. Paul is a busy man.

Many YAL chapters have big plans for this fall. They're going to bring Ron Paul AND Tom Woods AND Judge Napolitano to campus; they're going to raise a bunch of money and throw a huge event with thousands of people in attendance!  Sound familiar?

Sadly, hosting Dr. Paul on campus is not as simple as it sounds. It is a unique opportunity that requires a comprehensive proposal, lots of time, fundraising, and several hundred petition signatures.

But don't despair!  YAL wants Ron Paul to visit your campus, too, so my staff and I have put together a guide for you to learn how to bring the good doctor to your campus.

Learn how to bring Ron Paul to YOUR campus!

image

If you follow the instructions in this guide, produce a creative and thorough application, and collect petition signatures on your campus; you will have a real opportunity to bring Dr. Paul to your school.  He loves the enthusiasm of young people and enjoys speaking on college campuses more than anywhere else -- but it's up to you to convince him to visit yours.

Please don't hesitate to contact me or the Regional Director or State Chair for your area if you have any questions about this process.  We're here to help you have a productive fall semester...and maybe schedule a visit from THE Ron Paul!

Sample Flyer

While I'm sure more resources will be available soon, I decided to share a flyer we will be using to promote our YAL Chapter (Click thumbnail on right).

Feel free to edit this to use for your own chapter. You can download the template in a compressed .psd file by clicking here.

Alternatively, you can add customized type (or handwriting) to the image below, which has my school information removed.http://i.imgur.com/qzNKp.jpg

Thanks to Jeremy Henchcliffe for his help on the flyer.

YAL-CSU (GA) Already at Work!

The first week of the fall semester has already started here at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia (just south of Atlanta), and today the student involvement fair was held. This is an annual event where students can come and learn about the over 70 student organizations at CSU. For some reason, the university decided to hold it outside in Georgia in August!  Suffice it to say, it was hot out. I decided to let this work to my advantage and stole an idea from Jared Fuller, YAL regional director for the southeast; I bought bottled water to give out for free, but first I put labels with YAL info on them!

Here are some pictures from today's event, followed by pictures of the sidewalk chalking I did right before the event. I'm not the best photographer -- or chalk..ist(?) for that matter -- but I think I have improved from the photography tips we got at the YAL National Convention!

YAL Southern California Meetup

We are having the first annual YAL Southern California Meetup on August 18, 2010. The goal of this meetup is to learn from other YAL organizations in the area, share ideas, events, and successes; also, coordinate speakers and events to lower costs for the coming year. We also want to invite others who are interested in starting a YAL group at their university to attend.

Both Adam Weinberg, the new West Coast Regional Director of Young Americans for Liberty, and Ankur Chawla, the Southern California Students for Liberty regional coordinator will be present.

We are meeting at Lee's Sandwhiches (near UC-Irvine) 4127 Campus Dr. Irvine, CA on August 18th at 2pm.

A YOUNG GUN'S GUIDE TO SEEKING OFFICE
TO RUN, OR NOT TO RUN, THAT IS THE QUESTION by TOM MURRY

Why are you running for office?

If it takes you more than 30 seconds to articulate a response to this question, then take a step back, and rethink what you're doing. Running for office may not be the job for you.

You are a candidate -- not a professor, not a radio host and not a long-winded televangelist. You do not have the luxury to take all day and explain your positions. Be prepared to answer questions, even the complex ones, in 30 second or less sound bites. This takes practice, but it is essential to effectively convey your message.
