Bring Ron Paul to Campus

Bring Ron Paul to Campus

A lot of YAL chapters have big plans. They're going to bring Ron Paul and Tom Woods and Judge Napolitano to campus.  They're going to raise a bunch of money and throw a huge event with thousands of people in attendance!

Realistically, your proposal will be tossed in the trash because it will look the same as every other sitting on Dr. Paul's desk.

If you want a serious chance of having Dr. Paul come to your campus for an event, you need to put forth some serious effort and make it stand out amongst the rest of the applications.

"How do I make this happen?"

Step 1: Do your research and make a detailed proposal.

  • What venue is capable of hosting this event? You will want a room that holds an audience between 800 - 2,000 people. A room too smal l will not accomodate everyone who wants to attend, and a room too big will make your audience look smaller than it really is.
  • What is the best date to host this event? Dr. Paul is very busy fighting for freedom on Capitol Hill and spending time with his family. Find a handful of dates that makes sense for your campus, so you have the best opportunity to find an available day in Dr. Paul's schedule. Avoid large sporting events, concerts, and other major campus activities.
  • How much will your event cost? Venue rental, audio/visual rental, stagehands, promotional materials, travel costs, etc. All these expenses add up quickly. Fortunately, Dr. Paul does not require an honorarium, so this will save you some money. Overall, expect your event to cost $5,000 or more.
  • How will your promote this event? If no one shows up, then everything failed. So, develop a promotion plan to inform students, staff, and members of the community to attend your event.
  • Other questions: What are your school's security requirements? What other campus and community groups can help you raise funds and promote the event? Do you and your members have enough time to commit to this project?

Step 2: Fill out this online application so that YAL National knows you're interested in hosting Ron Paul on campus.  A member of the YAL Leadership Team will contact you shortly to discuss the event further. Click here to see your local leadership

Step 3: Download and print lots of copies of this petition. Grab some clipboards, pens, and fellow chapter members, then table on high traffic areas on campus to collect as many names, email addresses, and phone numbers as possible. The more the merrier. You want to show the tremendous interest for Ron Paul on your campus.

Step 4: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP! After a day of collecting petitions and student names, add every new recruit to your chapter email list or listserve. This is VERY important. Even if you are unable to bring Ron Paul to your campus, you now have the names and contact information for hundreds of students who have expressed interest in Ron Paul. These people are ideal recruits to join your YAL chapter. Be sure to email them right away to thank them for signing your petition and encourage them to attend your next chapter meeting.

Step 5: After you are completly finished collecting petitions, please make a photocopy of every petition for your own records, and then mail a copy with your detailed plan to host Ron Paul to YAL's national office:

PO Box 2751
Arlington, VA 22202

Step 6: Email contact@yaliberty.org to inform us that you mailed your petitions and proposal. Then, we know to look out for your envelope in the mail.

This is your opportunity to reach hundreds of students on campus who also may be interested in joining your YAL chapter. Please view this excercize just as much of a recruitment drive as an attempt to bring Ron Paul to campus.

Remember, Ron Paul is a very busy man and not all events will be able to happen. If your event does not happen this semester, never fear! Try again a different semester and look on the bright side -- your petition just provided you an extensive list of possible new recruits!
