Will Chairman Steele Embrace the Ron Paul Revolution?

It will be interesting to examine Michael Steele's treatment of the Ron Paul revolutionaries as he attempts to rebuild the GOP. Mr. Steele, Maryland’s former Lieutenant Governor and the newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, said this about the role that he hopes Ron Paul supporters will play in shaping the future of the Republican Party:

"If you can't say something nice...."

Dutch politician Geert Wilders is being prosecuted under a Dutch law that prohibits speech that "deliberately insults people on the grounds of their race, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation," in relation to statements he has made regarding Islam. It would appear that in Europe it is a crime to hurt someone's feelings (unless, of course, that someone is either white or Christian, in which case it's all great fun).

Choose: Gallows or Guillotine?

A group calling themselves Americans United for Change asks Americans, in an upcoming set of radio and TV advertisements, "Are you with Obama or Rush?" I hope there are other options.

Stimulus and growth of the economy or of the government?

Most people who at least watch the nightly news know of the recent stimulus package that passed in the House and is on it's way to the Senate.

Disarming the Peasantry

As someone who has never owned, fired, or even held a gun, I find reassurance in the fact that I nevertheless have recourse to a means of self-defense should the need arise. Moreover, I like the idea of living in a country where the designs of an overly-zealous State are kept in check (at least in theory) by a well-armed citizenry. The State, of course, hating challenges to its own power, harbors an inveterate hostility towards gun-ownership rights, a hostility most recently manifested in this country in H.R. 45, sponsored by Black Panther-turned-congressman Bobby Rush. The purpose of H.R.

Clever Maneuvering

Obama's executive order banning the use of torture as an interrogation tactic by some US officials is less significant than the White House has made it out to be, reports the News and Comments blog.  It may effectively prevent the American government from itself conducting torture, but it would not stop its keeping torture a component of the War on Terror:
Indeed, his policy change affects only a slight percentage of US-culpable tortures and could be co

H.R. 45: Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

Only a little over a week into the new administration and some in Congress are already trying to undermine the 2nd Amendment. Earlier this month Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Illinois) introduced this new bill into Congress. Although I believe it is still in a sub-committee we should at least keep an eye on this terrible piece of legislation. The bill would require anyone that owns a gun to have a gun owners license with a picture and thumbprint on it.
