Position: Director of Development

Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) seeks a Director of Development to join our national staff. This is a full-time position located in Arlington, VA. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development is a senior-level position and takes an active role in making strategic decisions affecting YAL. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build YAL's visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Director of Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $3 million budget through the solicitation of major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations. He or she will expand YAL's donor base and work closely with other staff to fund new initiatives. It is expected the amount raised by YAL will increase in future years, as the Director of Development systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity. To apply, please complete the form at the bottom of this page. Responsibilities:

  • Support and partner with the Executive Director on all major fundraising initiatives
  • Construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
  • Actively work with senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to include corporate and foundation grants
  • Develop and write all proposals
  • Research and expand donor base; help position YAL ahead of major funding changes or trends
  • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to Executive Director
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program to cultivate deeper ties with donors
  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program
  • Manage Development Executive and Development Intern
Qualifications:

  • High energy and passion for YAL's mission is essential
  • 3-5 years of professional development and/or sales experience
  • Tangible experience expanding and cultivating existing donor relationships over time
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
